☆ Breast cancer: Photos show diverse experiences of the disease

“What we learned doing this project is that a lot of people are not represented in breast cancer media. Although the incidence rate of breast cancer is 4% lower among Black women than White women, Black women are 41% more likely to die from the disease, according to the American Cancer Society. Breast cancer is less common among Asian women than in other ethnic or racial groups, but the disease is the most commonly diagnosed cancer. Eshaana Sheth was 27 when she was diagnosed with hormone receptor positive breast cancer in 2019. Breast cancer is hormone receptor positive when cancer cells have receptors — which the National Cancer Institute describes as binding proteins within the cell — that attach to progesterone or estrogen.

"I got rejected from every graduate school I applied to," she once said in an appearance on the "Employee of the Month" podcast. The challenge of breaking into the industry also had another side effect: for years, Gerwig was hesitant to negotiate her salary. In a 2020 interview with CNBC Make It, she said she worried about asking "for too much." Regardless of whether she takes home a statuette for "Barbie", Gerwig isn't facing much rejection these days.

Brad Falchuk remembers earning his first real writer's credit on the sci-fi series “Earth: Final Conflict” in 2001. On June 28, 2020, a group of women using the name Black Females Anonymous published a damning public letter that shook Essence magazine, the leading publication for Black women in America, to the core. Essence magazine was launched in 1970 at a time when Black business and civil-rights leaders called for greater self-determination and empowerment. The magazine was the brainchild of a group of four Black businessmen who identified a lack of publications for Black women in America. "And that is to serve Black women deeply, to serve women of color in a way that no one else has thought about." Essence Magazine was first published in 1970 at a time when Black business and civil rights leaders called for greater self-determination and empowerment. The magazine was the brainchild of a group of four Black businessmen who identified a lack of publications for Black women in America. With “Pinocchio” and the 2022 Netflix horror-anthology series “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities,” the director joins a long line of auteurs, from Alfred Hitchcock to Tim Burton, whose presence not merely above the title but in it serves as a stylistic marker, even when it’s not strictly their hand guiding the material. (The horror godhead Wes Craven habitually did the same; see “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare.”) Few, though, can claim to be the one-man industry that is Tyler Perry, who retains full ownership of the projects produced under his personal shingle at his stand-alone studio in Atlanta. The multihyphenate creator has famously put‌‌ his signature on several movie and television titles released under its umbrella — including “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming,” the most recent iteration of the reliably raucous comedies that he also writes and stars in as a salty, well-cushioned matriarch of a certain age. While Madea is Perry’s wholesale creation, indubitably linked to the man who wears her wig onscreen, certain intellectual properties with roots that reach back centuries have tilted their brims instead toward a more literal (and literary) acknowledgment of the source. Neither he nor Christie is officially billed in the title.

The theatrical release comes after the project appeared last month at New York’s premier LGBTQ film festival, NewFest. The film, which is loosely based on Bratton’s life, focuses on the challenges the main character, Ellis French, experiences as a young gay Black man during the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” era. However, in describing his tumultuous family life, Bratton recalled the time his mother invited him to film his sister’s school graduation. Prior to “The Inspection,” Bratton directed other LGBTQ projects, including the 2019 documentary “Pier Kids,” about queer and transgender youths living at Manhattan’s Christopher Street Pier. Bratton described Union as a dedicated ally for the LGBTQ community — who revived his mom for the world to see.

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’Even before making its way to theaters, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” — the long-awaited sequel to the 2018 film starring Chadwick Boseman — has birthed some of this fall’s biggest pop culture moments, including a Rihanna song drop. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” opens in U.S. theaters Nov. 11. “The Inspection” opens in U.S. theaters Nov. 18. “Bones and All” opens in U.S. theaters Nov. 23. “Strange World” opens in U.S. theaters Nov. 23.
